City Reminds Residents not to Discharge Grass Clippings into Streets

With the recent batch of wet and mild weather, grass cutting is becoming a priority for all residents. During this time of year the City would like to remind everyone that grass clippings should not be discharged into streets or walkways.

As much of the clippings are wet and clumped this time of year, they pose a real danger to bicycle and motorcycle riders. Additionally, they may clog or damage the storm drainage system during a large rainfall.

While an ordinance exists prohibiting grass clippings from being discharged into public ways, the City is asking for cooperation from residents. “Everyone is well aware of the storm water challenges we face, it would be a huge win if we could keep all of the lawn discharge out of the system this year, said Derek Clevenger, director of utilities for the City.
