City Takes Precautionary Action

Parsons, KS – The City of Parsons announced that effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020, there will be preventive measures in place to follow the recommendations recently released by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). All City services will remain operational and all employees will be available to assist residents via phone during regular business hours.

The safety and health of Parsons area residents continues to be the top priority and officials ask that patience and tolerance be shown as we move through these questionable times.

The following measures have been put in place for the safety of all concerned.

The Parsons Police Department will continue to provide all essential law enforcement services. The lobby at the police department will remain open, however requested documents will be delivered through electronic or other non-interactive means. The Police Department is currently working on dispatch redundancy procedures with partners in Oswego and Allen County in addition to long term operational plans.

All bathrooms located in public parks will be locked until further notice and enhanced cleaning procedures are being put in place for park equipment and facilities.

The Parsons Fire Department will continue to provide all essential safety and emergency services and will respond in a supportive role to EMS “code blue” calls. They are also coordinating with other regional departments on assistance and procedures.

Water and wastewater plant employees have been placed on distance and shift changing procedures limiting interaction.

Court cases scheduled for March 18 or 25 should plan on attending a currently scheduled April 22 court date.

The Parsons Senior Center and Parsons Rec Center have both been closed to the general public.

Direct phone numbers to City officials and employees will still be operational and general contact individuals have been set up for the following departments:

Communication with City Hall – 421-7000 or gswanwick@parsonsks.com

A meeting of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is scheduled for Tuesday March 17 and the City will work with that organization in all manners available to continue to make the health and wellness of residents the top priority. City leaders realize the burden these steps place on residents and the normal operation of business and we thank all residents for their patience in these uncertain times.
