Grants & Program Administration
The Community Development Department currently offers numerous programs whether it is to help individuals with housing issues or to assist in the addition of attractions and amenities in the community through the award of public and private grants.
Downtown Reconstruction
One of the major successes of the department was the reconstruction and improvement of Downtown Parsons after the April 2000 tornado. The project was such a success that it helped Parsons to win the 2006 Great American Main Street Award.
Grant Funding
The City of Parsons receives grant funding for a variety of programs to improve the community. Some of the most recent awards and partnering grants include:
- Community Development Block Grants (Water & Sewer Projects)
- KDOT Safe Routes to Schools Program (Middle School & Lincoln Elementary)
- Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (Emergency Communications, Fire Prevention, Equipment)
- Department of Justice JAG Award (provides for police technology)
- CivicPlus Extreme Web Makeover
- KS Housing Resources Corporation (HOME Rehabilitation Program)
- Sunflower Foundation (Tolen Creek Trail)
- KDOT Transportation Enhancement Grant (Forest Park Trail linking 13th Street to Heacock)
- USDA RED-LG (for Development of Tolen Creek Industrial Park)
- Parsons Area Community Foundation (Support of Police & Fire Programs, Parsons Farmers Market, Holiday Lighting)
- KDOT KLINK (resurfacing US 59 within the City Limits)
- Community Oriented Policing (helps to fund a school resource officer position)
- Nutro Room to Run Dog Park Appreciation Grant
- Regional Prevention Center (Labette County Youth Substance Abuse program)

Sewer Mitigation Grant Program
Each year, the City sets aside a portion of the EPA Compliance Order funds to help offset the cost of sewer repairs to residents. Click here to download and print the application.
