About the Seaton Family Pavilion
Forest Park is home to the limestone outdoor performance facility named the Seaton Family Pavilion, in honor of long-time music educator and supporter of the arts Norma Jean Seaton and her family. The project was spearheaded by the Parsons Area Community Foundation, a non-profit charitable agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for citizens of the greater Parsons area, who solicited contributions from local individuals and businesses through a special program of the Kansas Department of Commerce that awards tax credits in return.
Pavilion Ownership
Working closely with the foundation, the City of Parsons acted as administrator for the project, and paid for the architect/engineering services, as well as utilizing personnel to supervise the design and construction of the pavilion. Upon its completion on May 15, 2008, the City of Parsons obtained ownership of the pavilion and is now in charge of maintenance and scheduling.
Events at the Pavilion
The pavilion was officially dedicated on July 10, 2008. It hosts performances for the annual Katy Days Festival, and is home to the city-sponsored Music in the Park concert series that runs from June through July each Thursday evening. The pavilion features wonderful acoustic properties in an inviting park setting.
